Breast Lift

How is a breast lift performed in Manhattan?

Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, is designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts. During the procedure, the breast tissue and nipples are lifted and the lower tissues are tightened. Breast lift surgery can also reduce the size of the areola, and can be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation surgery to restore the volume and size of your breasts. Depending on the loss of elasticity in your breasts, the procedure and incisions will vary.

The amount of tissue removed and the resulting scar will vary based on the requirements of each breast. Three common variations of the breast lift procedure are the wise pattern, the vertical mastopexy, and the circumareolar lift.

The wise pattern skin excision removes a large amount of extra tissue in order to create the best breast shape using two intersecting ellipses that reduce the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the breast skin. This technique will ultimately produce tighter breast tissue beneath the skin to support the breast. The scar around the areola is hidden between skin tones. The horizontal scar is hidden in the breast crease, and the vertical scar will become subtle over time.

The vertical mastopexy is a similar procedure that can be used when a smaller amount of lifting is required, and there is no scar in the breast crease. The breasts are supported by suturing the breast tissue together.

The circumareolar lift mainly repositions the areola rather than the breast itself. This procedure is for patients that have low areolar positioning but not significant sagging below the crease. This procedure is often utilized to correct asymmetrical positioning of the areola or to reduce its circumference.
