Liposuction

How is liposuction performed?

Liposuction is a procedure that can sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. The initial step for liposuction is to make a small incision. The cannula (tube) can then be inserted and excess fat is loosened and removed, as if it were vacuumed away. The entire procedure may be as fast as 30 minutes, or it may take a few hours.

Liposuction is a safe, common procedure that can help patients loose that 5-10 pounds of stubborn fat that diet and exercise alone can’t achieve. Dr. Rosenblatt uses new technologies in liposuction such as ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty, tumescent technique and the super-wet technique to give patients the best possible results. Patients with elastic skin and toned muscles are preferred for this procedure, since liposuction, contrary to belief, actually can worsen stretch marks and cellulite.

What can I expect after liposuction?

Most patients feel soreness in the incision site for about five to seven days after surgery. It is important that patients return in one week for a follow-up for proper healing. You can expect to return to work after one week and back to your normal exercise routine after a month.
